Outback Expedition 2018

Packed up and ready to go. Finally on the road after a busy week. Left at 4am called in at Cullen Bullen at Sue and Terry’s for a cuppa and breakfast. It was good to catch up and Sue made us some Anzac biscuits to take with us. On the road and out through Mudgee, Dubbo then on to Nyngan where we stopped for lunch down on the river. Then it was on to Cobar where we stayed at the big 4 Cobar van park. Great place, large sites and clean amenities. It was time for happy hour and we went and spoke to a group of people with some old cars and it turns out that there was a reunion for the movie running on empty and they had about 300 cars here.
Our journey next took us on the long haul from Cobar to Broken Hill, a lot of road kill, mainly kangaroos and a few goats . There were a lot of heards of goats but they didnt seem to wander on to the road.
Stopped at a small roadhouse for lunch the the last stretch , a quick stop over at little topar roadhouse then 30ks out Rays landcruiser stopped, fuel we think. so Leonie and I took the camper to the van park and came back and took the caravan to the park while the tow truck picked up the 80.
Set up camp and settled in for the evening.

Flinders Ranges -Skytrek

It was good news about the 80, only a loose wire. So we were back in action, first stop was Bells milk bar for an old fashioned milk shake, we were not disappointed. The shakes here were amazing and they had a museum as well full of old memorabilia. On to Pro Hart’s gallery which was very good then off to Silverton for the rest of the day. Saw the museum in the old goal, Mad Max museum and then lunch at the Silverton Hotel.
Back then to Broken Hill Outback Resort where we had a beer at the newly restored old Mt Gipps Hotel then dinner.
It was on the road bound for South Australia and we decided to go straight to Willow Springs Station where we camped for the next two nights.
Up early an off on our Skytrek 4x4 drive what a fantastic day, the scenery was spectacular, breathtaking and the drive very challenging. We have decided that due to the heat, days are heading to 43 deg it will be too hot to attempt the Birdsville track so we are backtracking a little to Broken Hill.
